This September, one of our incredible Partners in Education — the Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County (CAC) — brought culture, rhythm, and history to life for students at Eastside Elementary School.
As part of their ongoing ARTSventures season, the CAC presents cultural and educational performances to Douglas County schools each month during the school year. Their September program celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with two engaging Flamenco performances and an after-school workshop led by A Través, a renowned group known for their dedication to both performance and arts education.
Flamenco, a traditional dance form that originated in Andalusia, Spain in the 15th century, continues to captivate audiences worldwide with its expressive movement and passionate rhythm. A Través’ performance showcased the beauty of this timeless art form — blending storytelling, rhythm, and cultural history into a vibrant learning experience for students.
Beyond the captivating dance steps, Flamenco carries deep cultural and historical significance. Its evolution reflects Spain’s diverse influences and social changes throughout the centuries. Students at Eastside were fascinated to learn how this art form connects people across generations and cultures.
Luciana Vinci, Arts Coordinator for the CAC, shared,
“The history of this traditional dance form made students excited to share stories from their own Latin roots.”
Teachers were equally enthusiastic about the impact of the performance. One Eastside Elementary teacher noted,
“The value of this program can’t be overstated. For no cost, the CAC brings unique arts programs that the students talk about for the rest of the year.”
Programs like this exemplify the power of PIE partnerships — connecting community organizations and schools to inspire creativity, celebrate diversity, and enrich the learning experience for every student.
A heartfelt thank-you to the Cultural Arts Council for their continued commitment to the arts and for sharing this wonderful PIE Moment with us!
